The project will consist of a PowerPoint multimedia presentation to the class with a written comments that supports the presentation.  Choose a new specific topic or a musical piece from the class.  You might also choose to use one of your unit writing assignments and turn it into a PowerPoint presentation.  The project will be a 7-10 slides PowerPoint. The PowerPoint should incorporate four active audio and video links for listening and viewing related information.  Submit the PowerPoint presentation as a PDF attachment.

If you choose your own topic, make sure the topic is worthy for this type of college project.  The project must be presented academically–not just a selection of a contemporary pop artist or song with materials from the “Fan Website” or album cover.  If you have questions about your topic being worthy, contact your instructor for topic approval.

If you do not have access to Microsoft PowerPoint, you can use Google Slides or any other free presentation software that will allow you to save the presentation as a PDF.

Your PowerPoint presentation might have 7-10 slides, starting with these slides: (1) the name of your presentation, your names and the date; (2) a summary of the piece’s composers/performers/producers; (3) a summary of its historical and musical context (what was happening in the world and in music around the time of its composition/production); (4) a summary of its most important performing forces and musical characteristics; (5) a listening guide of the composition; (6) a conclusions slide that includes a bibliography of any secondary sources used.

How will it be graded?

  • 25% Historical & cultural context
  • 25% Discussion of the performer(s), unique performance characteristics, or information relating to the topic
  • 25% Excerpt & discussion of the song, your student input relating to the topic
  • 25% Overall presentation

See the attachment below for a good example of a student’s PowerPoint portion of a project.  See how the audio links were incorporated and relative to the topic.

After completing your project PDF, upload the project here as an Assignment and also upload the PDF of your project into the PEER PROJECT REVIEW Discussion thread to enable your classmates to start viewing and providing feedback for your project.  These final two steps are required and necessary for your Final Project grade

4. Which is a way ESM can be used to measure change?
Section Three has one case study and I listed it below.  Please also follow the instructions on the page. There is a sample exam answer highlighted in blue that you can find on the same page.
Sally is a 41 year old female with a history of unsuccessful weight loss attempts. In the past, Sally has tried “almost every diet known to man” and now wants to lose “at least fifty pounds” and “stop fighting with myself”. Sally lives alone, and works as an accountant. Her hobbies include reading, spending time with her cat, and shopping. She describes her life as “pretty isolated” and rates her happiness at a 4 out of 10. She explains that when trying to change her behavior, she usually “falls off the bandwagon after a few days”, and describes herself as “stuck”. She has no history of injuries or preclusions to exercise and has recently had a clean physical exam, with the exception of needing to lose weight. Describe what approach you would take with Sally to help her change her behavior. Please include your rationale for your approach along with the measurement protocol you would use and the outcomes you would hope to achieve.
